Masdar to Spearhead 1GW Round-the-Clock Power in Uzbekistan

Abu Dhabi's renewable energy leader, Masdar, has entered into a strategic collaboration with the Emirates Utilities Development Company (EUDC) and the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan to spearhead a landmark clean energy initiative. This ambitious project is engineered to provide 1 gigawatt of continuous, round-the-clock power, marking a significant shift toward reliable baseload renewable energy in Central Asia.

The agreement focuses on utilizing cross-border expertise to help Uzbekistan achieve its sustainability targets. As part of the arrangement, the state-owned enterprise JSC Uzenergosotish will serve as the primary off-taker, purchasing the electricity generated by the new facility.

Redefining Renewable Energy Reliability

The primary objective of this giga-scale project is to address the historical challenge of intermittency in the green energy sector. By combining high-capacity renewable sources with sophisticated storage solutions, Masdar aims to provide a steady stream of electricity that rivals traditional fossil-fuel power plants. This "round-the-clock" model is designed to support both national energy security and the evolving demands of the digital economy.

Industry leaders emphasize that these large-scale deployments serve as a global blueprint. By demonstrating that clean power can be both sustainable and consistent, the project reinforces the viability of carbon-free grids for industrial and residential growth.

Strengthening the Central Asian Energy Corridor

This new venture expands Masdar's existing footprint in Uzbekistan, where the company already manages a diverse portfolio of renewable projects totaling 2 gigawatts. With total investments in the country exceeding $2 billion, the addition of a 1-gigawatt baseload facility highlights the growing importance of the region in the global energy transition.

Beyond Uzbekistan, Masdar is exploring similar infrastructure in neighboring Kazakhstan. A proposed 500-megawatt project in that country aims to mirror this baseload delivery model, further stabilizing the Central Asian energy market.

A Rapidly Expanding Global Portfolio

Masdar's growth trajectory remains aggressive as it pursues a target of 100 gigawatts of total capacity by 2030. Currently operating in more than 40 countries with a combined output of 51 gigawatts, the company is leveraging its deep expertise in solar, wind, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).

Key highlights of Masdar's recent global activities include:

United Kingdom and Africa: A partnership with Octopus Energy to develop specialized power systems for data centers in the UK and to enhance renewable grid infrastructure across the African continent.

United States: Significant investments in wind and solar farms across California, Texas, New Mexico, and New York.

Middle East: Development of what is cited as the world's largest integrated solar and battery storage site in Abu Dhabi, featuring 5.2 gigawatts of solar PV and 19-gigawatt hours of storage capacity.

Regional Presence: Ongoing projects and operations in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, and Oman.

Through these diversified investments and technological innovations, Masdar is positioning itself not just as a power producer, but as a pioneer in integrated energy systems capable of meeting the complex power demands of the modern world.
